How Ashtabula, OH Duct Cleaning Services Can Benefit Your Home

Monday, May 6th, 2013

If you own a forced air distribution system, then you already know how much you rely on the efficiency and effectiveness of your ductwork to circulate conditioned air throughout your home. They are not merely an appendage to the AC unit, but an essential part of the system, and your home could not be cooled without them.  If you have never had your ducts professionally cleaned, then spring is a great time to do so. In this post, we’d like to share with your some ways that Ashtabula, OH duct cleaning can benefit your home. Call Apple Heating & Cooling today for professional duct services!

Let’s look at some of the benefits of professional duct cleaning.

  • Indoor air quality: Over time, and even despite routine air filter replacement, your ducts can accumulate significant amounts of dust, pollen, dander, and other contaminants. The severity varies, but if you’re concerned about your poor indoor air quality—which the EPA ranks as one of the 5 most critical health risks in America—then you might want to have your ducts inspected to see if you might benefit.
  • Energy efficiency: Airflow is incredibly important to the efficiency with which your AC performs. A forced air distribution system relies upon clean and swift passage from the indoor unit to the living spaces of your home. Without it, your AC will have to work harder for the same amount of cooling, and this can present problems for your energy consumption. You may find that your energy bills gradually increase without a corresponding increase in cooling.
  • Performance: Last but certainly not least, duct cleaning can improve your cooling performance. Your AC will not cool as well if its air filters are clogged with dust, which will happen more frequently the more dirty your ducts are. By scheduling a professional duct cleaning, you can make sure that your AC is able to cool as effectively as possible.

Getting to Know Your Geneva, OH Air Conditioning Options

Monday, April 15th, 2013

If you’re in the market for a new air conditioning system for your Geneva, OH home, then you’re in luck. Today, there is a greater variety of options than ever before, and it has never been easier to be energy efficiency and to reduce your cooling costs. But with all that selection comes the pressure of making the right decision. Your new AC unit is a major investment for your home, and the decision you’ll make is one that is going to last for a number of years. Before you jump into the installation itself, you need to know what options are available. You also need to make sure that you receive professional installation, for only when the AC unit appropriately matches your home can it work properly. Call Apple Heating & Cooling today to talk to an expert about air conditioning installation.

Let’s take a look at some of your air conditioning options:

  • Central air conditioning: This is the most popular type of air conditioning on the market today. Central air consists of two units: an indoor unit containing the air handler and evaporator coil, and an outdoor unit containing the condenser and compressor. They are connected by lines through which circulate the “charge” of your cooling system, the chemically designed refrigerant. Today’s models will likely feature R-410A, which is the new non-ozone-depleting standard..
  • Ductless mini split air conditioning: Ductless systems use the same type of outdoor unit as central air, but they don’t require ductwork because the indoor units sit inside the cooling space itself, often high on a wall or recessed in a ceiling. This allows for built-in zone control, and highly efficient operation. This is a particularly attractive option for homeowners in historic homes without ductwork, or for those who wish to avoid the indoor air quality issues associated with ducts.
  • Thermostat: Consider installing a wifi-enabled or digital programmable thermostat in your home with your new AC. It will improve the energy efficiency of your home and provide more accurate temperature control. It will also allow you to customize your home air conditioning.

We hope this brief guide is useful. For more information, or to schedule a consultation with a Geneva, OH air conditioning expert, call Apple Heating & Cooling today.

Wickliffe, OH Heating Tip: Ways You Could Be Wasting Money This Winter

Monday, January 28th, 2013

According to the EPA, heating and cooling your home can account for up to 50% of your energy bills. This will be especially true with older systems and forced air systems with leaky air ducts. If you are looking for ways to save energy in your Wickliffe, OH home, one way you could be wasting money is through an older heating system and leaky air ducts. Call the heating experts at Apple Heating & Cooling if you would like to discuss your options for a heating upgrade or our comprehensive duct services.

Even if you are thinking about upgrading your heating system, keep in mind you won’t get as much out of your new system if you are losing energy through leaky ducts. Taking a whole-house approach means making sure your ducts are properly sealed and insulated, especially ductwork that is installed in exposed places. This also means making sure your entire home is also properly sealed and insulated. You can also install programmable thermostats to set back your heating system at night or while you are away.

We offer routine HVAC maintenance, duct cleaning, duct sealing, duct design, and duct rehabilitation. Poor duct design can also lead to inefficiency, so call us, even if we didn’t install the original ductwork. We can take care of any issues with air ducts in your home.

When you do upgrade after other home improvements, make sure that you get a heating system with a high AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) rating. While the minimum AFUE rating for any heating system on the market today is 80%, look for models at 90% or above. You can also look for the Energy Star label, since these models will be above 90% AFUE.

Call the Wickliffe, OH heating specialists at Apple Heating & Cooling for all your ductwork and heating upgrade needs!

Willoughby, OH Heating Tip: Comparing Air Source and Geothermal Heat Pumps

Monday, December 10th, 2012

Are you trying to choose the right type of heat pump for your Willoughby, OH area home? There are two main types of heat pumps—air source heat pumps and geothermal heat pumps (also called ground source).

The heating specialists at Apple Heating & Cooling want to help you make an informed decision, so we’ve put together a few items to consider when trying to decide which heat pump system is right for your home.

Air Source Heat Pumps

An air source heat pump draws in the air from outside and heats it in the winter. In the summer, this process is reversed simply by changing the direction of the refrigerant. In colder climates, you may need a backup heater for your heat pump, and gas furnaces are typically recommended for this. The heat pump compressor is connected to the ductwork that is used to distribute the air to the living spaces of the home.

Geothermal Heat Pumps

Geothermal heat pumps are called ground-source heat pumps because they use the constant temperature beneath the ground outside your home to heat or cool the home. Geothermal systems can be very cost-effective, depending on the size of your home, the location, and the condition of the soil around your home. There’s also no need for a backup heater, and they can be used to heat the water in your home as well. There are some extra considerations for installation, however.

The heat from the ground is transferred through a series of pipes (loop fields) that either need holes that are drilled down vertically, or they can be installed horizontally into trenches dug by a backhoe. You’ll need to consider how much space you have on your property before you can make a decision about which type to install. Both are equally effective.

Mentor Geothermal Question: How Do Geothermal Systems Use Electricity?

Monday, November 5th, 2012

If you are interested in a highly efficient, environmentally friendly way to heat and cool your Mentor home, then you may want to consider the installation of a geothermal heating and air conditioning system in your home. Geothermal heat pump systems are a great way to reduce your energy consumption and utility bills while also reducing your impact on the environment. If you’d like to learn more about geothermal heating and air conditioning systems ore are interested in scheduling a property evaluation or installation, call the geothermal experts at Apple Heating & Cooling today. We are happy to discuss the benefits of geothermal systems with you as well as what the installation process entails and operational procedures. Call today for more information.

A geothermal system, unlike more traditional heating and air conditioning systems, does not consume a fuel source to create energy. They use a heat pump to transfer ambient energy from the ground or a water source on your property to heat your home, and in the warmer seasons the process can be reversed and the geothermal heat pump system will remove heat from your home and move it back outside. While a geothermal heating and air conditioning system does not need a fuel source to create energy the way that a gas or electric furnace does, it does require access to electricity to perform its function. The way in which it uses this electricity, though, is much different from and more efficient than other heating and cooling system options.

Because geothermal systems do not use electricity to create heat but rather to transfer preexisting heat, much less of that electricity is needed to heat or cool your home. This is not only great for energy efficiency, but it is also good for utility companies. You may think that the utilities would frown upon a reduction in the use of electricity, but in fact the steady draw of electricity that geothermal systems create helps to reduce the spikes in electricity consumption during peak hours of use. This actually can help to make electricity more reliable and less expensive for all users, as it is not overloading the utilities electrical supplies.

Whatever your inspiration for considering the use of a geothermal heat pump system to heat and air condition your home in Mentor, contact the geothermal professionals at Apple Heating & Cooling for the information that you need to make the right choice for your home. Because of the underground or underwater loop system required for a geothermal system installation you need to be sure that your property is appropriate for this type of system. Apple Heating & Cooling can help sort out all of this information and make the best choices for your comfort and budget. Call today.

Heating Questions | Ashtabula | Apple Heating & Cooling

Why do I need an in home estimate when purchasing a new furnace?

When having an estimate for new equipment provided by a home comfort contractor, you should expect the contractor to spend a significant amount of time in your home inspecting your current system. It is important to have a proper load calculation performed which will include items like house size, ductwork, windows, and insulation. A good contractor will inspect your ductwork for air leakage and measure airflow.

What is a load calculation?

We use a Manual J load calculation on residential replacement projects because it measures the load (amount of heating or cooling needed in your home) based on the design of your home, environmental conditions, and your lifestyle. We take in to account everything from windows, insulation, humidity levels, size of your family, and more when performing a load calculation. Apple Heating & Cooling stands behind our work and will give you a 100% satisfaction guarantee in writing. The correctly done load calculation is one reason why we are able to do that.

What To Expect From Your Installation

Wednesday, October 17th, 2012

We want to make the installation of your new equipment as easy and convenient for you as we can. We know it can be a hassle to have something like this happening in your home, so we’re going to take a series of steps to minimize any disruption to your everyday life you might be expecting to experience. Our Install Team will stay in contact with you during our work to keep you updated on the progress of your installation.

We’ll Pull The Permits For You

We’ll find out if you need any permits from the city, and we’ll even arrange for the City Inspector to come and check everything out, at a time that is convenient for you if possible. Some communities require the homeowner to schedule inspections directly with the building department. We will try our best to make it easy for you and you can trust that we will do everything in our control to do so.

You Can Still Come and Go During Installation

Just leave us contact information where we can reach you if we have to ask for any permissions or to tell you we’re done, and you can leave to run errands or go to work while we perform the installation. Upon completion, our installers will need to go over the operation of your new equipment with you and to collect any payment for services.

There’s No Need to Cover Your Carpets or Clean Up After Us

We’ll wear shoe covers when we enter your home, and make sure we cover any areas we’re going to be walking in. When we’re all finished, we’ll vacuum up after ourselves so you don’t have to. There might be a little dust around for the next few days, but that’s just residual from the installation – we’ll clean up as best we can!

We’ll Be As Quiet As Possible

If we need to use noisy power tools or hammers, we’ll let you know before we do so it’s not a nasty surprise, but we will always aim to minimize noise disruption in your house – we’ll only use these tools as much as we have to.

Your Home Will Remain As Comfortable As We Can Make It

We’ll obviously have to detach your old system to install the new one, but we will keep it on for as long as possible and work as quickly as we can, so you remain as comfortable as possible. On very rare occasions, it might be off overnight, but we’ll be back first thing in the morning to finish up the job. In the meantime, we will provide temporary heaters to keep you comfortable.

We’ll Send Someone Out To Inspect the Installation Once It’s Done

Once our installation work is done, we will be calling you soon to schedule the “final touch” visit   to make sure everything’s working great and follow up with you about any concerns you might have. We want your experience choosing us as your contractor to be a happy one!

Willoughby Hills Geothermal FAQs

Monday, September 10th, 2012

So have you heard about these geothermal systems in Willoughby Hills and are you curious to know more about them? The following are some of the most commonly asked questions about these systems.

Are they efficient?

Yes, they are. In fact, geothermal systems are known to be one of the most efficient types of systems when it comes to temperature regulation for homes. These systems are actually way more efficient when compared to many traditional air conditioning and heating systems available on the market these days.

Can they cool and heat?

Geothermal systems are capable of both heating and cooling. A simple flick of the switch can help you mediate between heating and cooling options. When it comes to heating as well as cooling, these systems can help you cut down your energy bills drastically.

Can these systems be used to heat water?

Many geothermal systems can be configured to heat water as well. When the system is used for cooling during the summer, hot water is a byproduct of the cooling process. So there is no extra effort used during this time. However, this is optional with geothermal systems so if you do have water heating requirements, make sure you get a system with this technology built in.

How long do geothermal systems last?

Another great advantage of using geothermal systems is that they are highly durable and reliable. Since geothermal systems have hardly any mechanical components, the wear and tear they undergo is minimal. These systems are buried below the ground level so they are not subjected to ageing factors. In fact, many geothermal systems last for 20, 30 or even 50 years without much hassle.

Are geothermal systems convenient and safe?

Geothermal systems are buried below the ground so they don’t require any extra space. These systems are quiet to run, as they have no fans to create a lot of ambient noise, so they are totally convenient and hassle free. Since these systems are not open on the outside, kids or animals can’t access them making them completely safe. There is no flammable fuel or open flame to create any risk factors as well.
